Several injured as chairs drop from Maine ski lift
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – A chair lift has derailed on Maine's tallest ski mountain in high winds and injured several people who plummeted as far as 30 feet to the slope below.
Officials at the Sugarloaf resort say that there are about six injuries from Tuesday's accident and that patrols evacuated the lift.
Winds were about 40 mph at the time and there were about 220 people were on the lift.

Autumn will make it's grand entrance this week as a strong cold front will drop local temperatures to near freezing.
The front will move through the area tonight and into Tuesday, with wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour expected ahead of the system, the National Weather Service in Reno reported. The winds will pick up tonight and continue into Tuesday.
The front will drop local temperatures by as much as 35 degrees over the weekend. Widespread freezing is expected by Thursday morning on the valley floors, meteorologists said.

The rest of the summer was pretty unexciting but I guess Mother Nature has decided to pack it all in at once."

(CNN) -- Downpours subsided temporarily in the Philippines on Sunday, a day after Tropical Storm Ketsana pummeled the capital Manila with its heaviest rainfall in more than 40 years.
An enormous cyclone has wreaked havoc across Europe from Scandinavia to the Balkans, bringing snow gales and claiming lives. In Russia, weather surprises during the weekend started with beating two climate records, for warmth and low atmosphere pressure, and ended with a tempest and heavy snow which brought destruction and left more than 130,000 people without electricity.
This weekend marks a rapid halt to the abnormally warm weather which lasted in western Russia for most of November.
Moscow and St Petersburg suffered the worst because of the gale, where heavy snowfall along with strong winds have killed one person and injured several others. .... In Germany, France, Poland and Romania snow gales brought chaos to the roads this weekend. Snow, ice and poor visibility caused a series of accidents across the areas and paralysed motorways.
In Italy high winds killed two people.

May 3 - Myanmar: One of the worst natural disasters of the decade hits, Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar. Death and destruction follow leaving millions homeless and an astounding estimated 78,000 people dead or missing. Most of the deaths were caused by water and the huge tidal waves that flooded the land and ripped structures apart. May 11- US.: 20 people die and many left homeless in southern states because of tornadoes May 12 - China: A 7.9 earthquake strikes China killing over 67,000 people die and leaving hundreds of thousands more injured. Following the earthquake were more natural disasters in the form of floods and landslides that killed, injured and left many more people trapped.
March 14 - US: Georgia is hit by another disaster, this time it’s bad weather and tornadoes rip through the southern state. 2 people are killed and at least 30 people are injured in Atlanta and northwestern counties of Georgia including Polk County and Floyd County. The tornadoes bring down many large centers including the CNN one and cause millions in damage. March 17-US: Flooding and bad weather affect states from Pennsylvania to Texas causing road closures, evacuations and the deaths of 13 people.
